My Platform, Giving Life

Helping others is something I have always loved, and my freshman year at Vaca High I was so interested in watching all of the older kids step on to the blood donation bus. I researched the importance of donating blood, and was so moved by what I learned. Every 4 seconds someone in the US needs a blood transfusion! And by just donating one pint of blood, you can save up to 3 lives. I could not wait to turn 16 so I could finally donate! I knew this was a great way for me to make a difference. The thought of literally saving lives by taking out an hour of my day, was just incredible. I have not missed one donation since I turned 16, donating every 50 days.

I do all of my donations through BloodSource, and I loved how kind the staff was! I looked up how I could give my time to this organization, and the Mobile Blood Drive director, Heather, told me I could have a position as a volunteer. I work at the pre-registration desk at many local blood drives. I get to meet so many incredible people, and I love giving my time to BloodSource. I feel blessed that I can be involved and I will continue to be a part of the BloodSource family forever. With my title, I encourage others to donate, and I raise awareness for blood donations. Be a hero.
